Decorate the cooled cookies with royal icing, easy cookie icing, or cookie decorating buttercream. Feel free to tint any of the icings with gel food coloring. See post above for recommended decorating tools.
If you decorated them with icing or sprinkles, you may want to put parchment paper between the layers. Doing so will prevent them from sticking.
However, it doesn’t provide the same sharp detail that royal icing decorations do. It also takes a good 24 hours to dry.
